Japan’s Bullet Trains To Offer Wi-Fi

December 31st, 2008

bullet-train2NTT Communications will offer Wi-Fi service on the new N700-type trains which is the fastest rail link between Japan’s two biggest cities of Tokyo and Osaka. Now passengers on Japan’s super-fast bullet trains will be able to surf the Web while traveling at 270 kilometers per hour. This service is an extension of company’s hotspot service which is already offering internet access in shops, restaurants, and major hotels, etc. NTT will also launch access in waiting lounges on all 17 stations along the route. This service will start from March 2009. As this is a paid service, it will be charged at a standard HotSpot rate which is from ¥500 per day to ¥1,500 (approx US$5 to $20) for a monthly subscription.
