Ban On Fake Chinese Mobile Phones In India
From April 30 all the illegally smuggled china mobile phones will stop working or will lose network connectivity. It seems that some Chinese mobile phones are not equipped with proper IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number and thus these phones have been banned over concerns that the devices could be used by terrorists. It can be serious threat to national security.
Most branded handsets carry a genuine IMEI number, which allows law enforcement officials to easily monitor individuals suspected of terrorist activity.
Presently there are more that eight percent of India’s 375 million mobile phone users are using china mobiles having no IMEI number. Over 30 million Chinese-made mobile phones will lose networks very soon. Telecom service providers like Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL have started deactivating fake IMEI handsets. The china mobile phones have Rs 7000 crore revenue industry in India.
So you people out there don’t buy fake mobile phones which does not have a proper IMEI number.


I am using China Mobile SIGMATEL S4 FM’ having : I.M.E.I. 357569000204241 & I.M.E.I.S.V. : 78 since years.Airtel Alert Notices are coming on my mob. that my SIM CARDS will stop to work from 15.11.2009! Should I change my mob.?
May be your phone do not have a genuine IMEI number. Anyways, you may contact your phone company ‘SIGMATEL’ and sort it out.
Also, not only with the Airtel but none of the Indian GSM SIM would work in the phone which do not have a genuine IMEI number.
